Should Your Bathroom Remodel Include a Bidet?

If you are a homeowner in Boca Raton or Boynton Beach, your bathroom remodeling project might be about to get a little more interesting. In addition to deciding on things like the floor and shower tile you’d like, you might want to put deciding on whether or not to include a bidet on your list of home remodeling factors.

Even before the toilet paper shortages that plagued the country in the early weeks of the Covid-19 pandemic, bidets were growing in popularity. Way back in January 2019, which seems like such an innocent and ancient age, USA Today reported that, “The bidet is having a rebranding moment.”

“According to a forthcoming 2019 trends study out in February and conducted by the National Kitchen and Bath Association, designers consider a toilet with a bidet squirting feature the most important thing to put in a new bathroom today, with more than half of the 500+ designers surveyed saying they install cleansing toilets as opposed to regular ones, for clients,” they said.

At the beginning of 2019, bidets and bidet attachments that can go on existing toilets were a $106 million industry, according to BRG Building Solutions’ October 2018 North American Shower Toilet & Bidet Seat Markets report. (Yes, that is a real report. USA Today even included it in their reporting.) At that point, the experts were predicting that the bidet market would grow 15 percent annually for the next few years.

Now remember this was before toilet paper hoarding became a thing and people would stand in long lines just for a chance to get their hands on some TP. We can only imagine what the actual growth in bidet sales will be this year!

Having a bidet will certainly ease your worries about any toilet paper shortages that might be in the future. According to the experts, using a bidet offers a number of other advantages as well, including:

  • Enhanced cleanliness
  • Because they reduce your use of toilet paper, they are considered environmentally friendly
  • They also cut down on clogs and plumbing problems

Bidets are very popular in other parts of the world. Nobody seems to know why they haven’t caught on here before now. Regardless, sales of bidets are definitely on the rise.
